About Us
Bakersfield Youth Fine Arts Academy (BYFA) is an organization that specializes in the education of youth in the visual and performing arts and the enrichment of our community through live performances. Due to lack of funding, fine arts programs are generally the first to be eliminated from many schools' standard learning curriculum. BYFA's primary goal is to fill that void. In a technology driven age, BYFA has a strong conviction to keep the soul of the arts alive by offering it to the future...our children. The enrichment of our children in the arts has benefits of improving acting, singing, dancing, painting, drawing and sculpting skills. However, the most fundamental benefits of studying the fine arts are promoting creativity, gaining social skills by working in teams, building self-confidence and encouraging individuality in self-expression. BYFA views these benefits as invaluable assets to mold children into well-rounded, successful adults.
2025 Broadway Musical Fall Workshop
Into the Woods Jr.!
Due to the popularity of our summer workshops, for the first time in BYFA history we are offering a fall workshop! It is an 8 week fall singing/acting/dancing workshop that culminates into a professional big-stage production of the Broadway show “Into the Woods Jr.”! Students will learn about the auditioning process, vocal techniques, acting skills and choreography…and during the last week of workshop we put on a show on a professional live theatre stage with sets, costumes, make up, lights and body mics.
Dates for this will run:
Aug. 18 - Oct 11.
Rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30-7:30pm (during the last week the rehearsal schedule will slightly differ)
Performances:
Oct. 10 7pm
Oct. 11 2pm & 7pm
No rehearsal on Sept. 1 (Labor Day).
We welcome ages 5-19 years. Tuition is $390 per student (costume rental, show tshirt and two comp tickets included). Tuition is non-refundable after the first week of workshop…Aug. 22.
Absences can be excused for illness or if instructors are given ample notice except during tech week (the week before performances). This week is mandatory attendance. (Oct. 7-11)
For rehearsals, location is a private residence in the Stockdale area (address will be given once student is enrolled and paid). Then for the last week of workshop, we will move into the Stars at the Fillbrandt (1931 Chester Ave.) and add the big stage, costumes, make-up, sets, lights and body mics! Performances will be Oct. 10 & 11.
Our workshops are absolutely extraordinary experiences that your child will never forget. We watch our students learn, grow and gain confidence that will stay with them their entire lifetimes. It is a truly magical experience!
