About us
Bakersfield Youth Fine Arts Academy (BYFA) is an organization that specializes in the education of youth in the visual and performing arts and the enrichment of our community through live performances. Due to lack of funding, fine arts programs are generally the first to be eliminated from many schools’ standard learning curriculum. BYFA’s primary goal is to fill that void. In a technology driven age, BYFA has a strong conviction to keep the soul of the arts alive by offering it to the future…our children. The enrichment of our children in the visual and performing arts has benefits of improving the skills of acting, singing, dancing, painting, drawing and sculpting. However, the most fundamental benefits of studying the fine arts are promoting creativity, gaining social skills by working in teams, building self-confidence and encouraging individuality in self-expression. BYFA views these benefits as invaluable assets to mold children into becoming successful adults.

2024 Broadway Musical Summer Workshop

BYFA's 2024 Broadway Musical Summer Workshop is coming up! This is a four week summer singing/acting/dancing workshop that culminates into a professional, big-stage production of a Broadway show taught by nationally and internationally trained instructors from Bakersfield and Los Angeles. Students will learn auditioning skills, vocal techniques, acting skills and choreography...and at break time... we swim and snack! (There is a licensed lifeguard on hand at all times). This summer we are producing Disney's "The Little Mermaid, Jr.". Everyone that participates receives a role. With two sessions to choose from, the schedule is as follows:
JUNE 3-29
AM Session: Mon-Fri 9am-12pm
(Performances June 28 & 29)
or
PM Session: Mon-Fri 1pm-4pm
(Performances June 27 & 29)
$385 per student (This includes costume rental, show tshirt and 2 comp tickets to the show)
ages 6-18
The first 3 weeks of rehearsals are located at a private residence in Stockade Estates (Stockade Hwy and Gosford), This address will be given after the student is registered. During the final week, we move to a local high school auditorium and add the big stage, costumes, make-up, sets, lights and body mics.
